ASUU’s National President, Prof Emmanuel Osodeke, has confirmed that only a portion of its members has received their withheld salaries from the Federal Government. According to Osodeke, the union is still collecting data on the payments made by the government. He also revealed that even though the government claims to have initiated payments, only a few members have received two months’ worth of salary.

In October 2023, President Bola Tinubu approved the release of four out of the eight months’ worth of salaries owed to ASUU workers. These salaries were initially withheld during the former President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure when he invoked a ‘No Work, No Pay policy’ against university-based unions that went on an eight-month strike in 2022.

ASUU is keeping a close eye on the situation as efforts persist to ensure that all affected members receive their owed salaries in a timely manner.
