Afghanistan inaugurated it’s first president on Monday since the fall of Taliban in 2001.
Former finance minister Ashraf Ghani was sworn in as President and election runner up Abdullah Abdullah as Chief Executive in a coalition government which allows both men who claimed to have won the election work together after 3months of disagreement on election results.
The inauguration which took place on Monday at the presidential palace in Kabul was greeted with hostility with a suicide bomber attacking a checkpoint hours before the election in what was an indication of the daunting task of the New President and Cabinet.
The road ahead for the new power sharing structure with Chief executive Abdullah Abdullah’s role representing what could easily be called a Prime Minister’s position is dim as they face huge security problems and economic crisis as the country is mostly dependent on foreign aid and have requested for a 537 million dollar loan from the US to pay its bill till the end of year.
The Taliban criticized the new government calling it an “American Orchestrated Sham”
