Nigerian Afrobeats star Asake has emerged as the most-streamed artist on Spotify in Nigeria, based on new data shared by the streaming giant.
The milestone aligns with Spotify’s fifth anniversary of operations in Nigeria, Kenya, and Ghana.
“Celebrating 5 years of Spotify in Kenya, Nigeria, and Ghana, powered by you,” the company said in a statement.
Leading the Nigerian Charts
Asake outperformed other top Nigerian acts including Wizkid, Burna Boy, Davido, and Seyi Vibez.
His song “Remember” ranked as the most-streamed track in the country, while “Lonely at the Top” also featured among the top five songs.
Spotify credited its user base for fueling its rapid expansion, noting that listeners in Nigeria have created more than 25 million playlists over the past five years. The data also revealed that the average Nigerian Spotify user is 26 years old, underscoring the strong influence of a young, digitally engaged audience.
Distinct Style and Global Impact
Asake’s success has been driven by his unique blend of street pop and mainstream Afrobeats, combined with energetic dance records that frequently trend on platforms like TikTok.
His album “Lungu Boy” achieved a historic milestone as the first African project to debut at No. 1 on Spotify’s global debut chart, reinforcing his position as a dominant force in Afrobeats.
As Spotify continues to expand across the region, Asake’s achievement highlights the growing international reach of Nigerian music and the sustained prominence of Afrobeats on digital streaming platforms.
