Peter Mba, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader and governor of Enugu State, may find it difficult to prevail in the certificate dispute he has with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
The NYSC director general, Brigadier General Yushau Dogara Ahmed, is scheduled to testify about the purported discharge certificate the governor allegedly submitted before the Enugu State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.
The Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) announced the development in a tweet early on June 22.
Remember that the PDP governor’s NYSC certificate, which he submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) before to the 2023 general election, has come up for discussion in the media after the corps had repeatedly rejected it.
In one of his appearances with Channels TV, Chris Ekemezie, the attorney defending the governor before the Tribunal, said that Mbah had no justification for falsifying the NYSC certificate and questioned why the corps had rejected the certificate it had granted.
According to Ekemezie, Governor Mbah was encamped in Lagos and had a law business as his principal place of assignment (PPA). He did, however, clarify that the governor had postponed his service for six months in order to attend law school but had come back to finish it.
The legal practitioner said:
“A certificate he didn’t have to pay for; it’s not an exam certificate. It’s just for you to be present and do the primary assignment then you get it. When he completed, it was given to him.”
