Armed security personnel took control of the Kano Emir’s Palace at Kofar Kudu early Friday morning, restricting entry and exit.
The increased security presence coincided with plans for Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II to accompany Alhaji Munir Sanusi, the newly-appointed Wamban Kano, to his new district in Bichi.
Bichi, one of the four emirates established during the tenure of former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje and later dissolved by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, is also under tight security, with armed officers stationed at the Bichi Emir’s Palace.
The reasons for the heightened security remain unclear as of this report. Efforts to contact Abdullahi Haruna, the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Police Command, were unsuccessful as his phone was unreachable.
Many traditional rulers and titleholders found themselves stranded at the Kano Emir’s Palace due to the heavy security presence. Observers noted that some were forced to leave their vehicles within the palace grounds and walk to the central mosque for Friday prayers.
A source confirmed that the Emir remained inside the palace while visitors left for prayers. Security operatives have continued their watch, maintaining restrictions on movement around the area.
