The All Progressives Congress (APC) state branch in Rivers has responded to rumors that former governor Nyesom Wike has joined the party.
According to Leadership, the press secretary for the Rivers APC, Darlington Nwauju, called Wike an enemy of the party and unqualified to head the party in the state.
APC leader stated in a statement on Sunday, June 25, that a person who had called the party a “cancer” during the campaign period could not change his mind and become their leader. THISDAY reported this.
Nwauju emphasized that Wike, a guy who had not supported the party’s interests and had not been a member, could not be promoted to lead them as well.
The party spokesperson said,
“We dare anyone to provide video evidence of any campaigns where Wike openly campaigned for the APC. The terror unleashed on our party members in the cause of his eight years of maximum rulership alone is enough evidence to confirm that Wike has no business with Rivers State APC.”
Nwauju also distanced the party’s leadership from the alleged request for Wike to lead the state APC made by a party chieftain. He also reaffirmed the party’s unwavering support for the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
“We, therefore, disassociate the leadership of our party from any so-called stakeholders meeting suggesting that our party be handed over to Wike. We reiterate our party’s resolve to lend 100 per cent support to the policies and programmes of the federal government under the indefatigable leadership of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
