An Angolan-born lawyer has been named solicitor of Philadelphia city in the US.
Mayor-elect Jim Kenney appointed Sozi P. Tulante, a Harvard University law graduate and current assistant US attorney, to the plum position on Tuesday.
Mr Tulante emigrated to the US as a young refugee and has settled there for three decades now.
His father, Mr Manuel Tulombo Sozinho, who was a commander of the Angolan navy, died last year in the US.
He was a refugee in the DR Congo when Angola was fighting for her independence from Portugal. He was later arrested in 1982 by the Mobuto Sese Seko regime but freed in 1983.
The family was granted political asylum in the USA in 1983 and they settled in Philadelphia.
This month, President Barack Obama appointed two Nigerians to his cabinet.
