A smart schoolgirl played doctor at the birth of her sister – by following a drill she learned from Casualty.
Quick-thinking Francesca Goodby, six, sprang into action when her mum Kay went into labour on the bathroom floor.
The youngster helped with Kay’s breathing, fetched towels and made sure the umbilical cord was not wrapped around the baby’s head.
Frantic dad Michael, 33, was downstairs on the phone to a 999 call handler.
By the time he went back upstairs, his wife had already given birth to Roisin.
Francesca, who wants to be a doctor when she grows up, said: “I had to keep Mummy calm.
“I didn’t want the baby’s cord to be wrapped around her neck because she might have died.
“I held her when she was born to keep her safe.
“I don’t know how I knew about it but I do watch Casualty and like it a lot.”
Kay was astonished at how calm Francesca remained as she helped deliver the healthy 6lbs 8oz baby in July.
The 28-year-old from Bearwood in Birmingham said: “Francesca had gone to bed but woke up when I started screaming.
“She came in and asked if I was okay. She then said, ‘I can see the head’.
“She kept me calm, told me where to put my hands and wrapped Roisin up after she was born.”
And proud Kay insists the family’s love of BBC Saturday evening drama Casualty was behind her daughter’s action.
She added: “Francesca watches Casualty all the time.
“We can’t wait to tell Roisin when she is older how her sister helped bring her into the world.”
