The box office war of words has intensified as filmmaker Kunle Afolayan fired back at actress Toyin Abraham following a sarcastic video she posted, which appeared to mock his recent controversial comments on cinema earnings.
The Trigger
The drama stems from Afolayan’s statement on Thursday, January 30, where he dismissed the hype around movies grossing N1 billion or N2 billion if the filmmaker cannot personally pocket at least N10 million. This was widely seen as a shade directed at Funke Akindele (whose film hit N2.4bn) and Toyin Abraham (whose Oversabi Aunty crossed N1bn).
The Shade
After Funke Akindele fired the first shot, Toyin Abraham joined the fray with a theatrical skit on Instagram. In the video, she sarcastically begged Nigerians in Canada to stream her movie so it could hit N1.5 billion, jokingly hoping that would finally net her the “impossible” N15 million profit Afolayan alluded to.
The Clapback
Afolayan wasted no time in responding directly in her comments section with a sharp, albeit colloquial, retort.
He wrote:
“Toyin, Omo ale! Emi lo nba wi abi?”
