Aliko Dangote, the richest man in Africa, is apparently close to purchasing Valenciennes, a French Ligue 2 team.
According to French media sources, Dangote Group CEO Aliko Dangote is poised to purchase a 60% interest in the team.
The Dangote Group, Africa’s greatest industrial group, previously indicated interest in purchasing Premier League franchise Arsenal, but the deal fell through.
Valenciennes was formed in 1913, and its home games are presently held at the Stade du Hainaut.
The team has competed in Ligue 1 for 40 seasons and Ligue 2 for 36 and have won the Ligue 2 championship twice but have never won the Ligue 1 championship.
