The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has suspended Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar following accusations of slandering fellow actors and prominent individuals.
In a statement shared on their official Instagram page, the AGN revealed that a two-year investigation by a special panel concluded that Halima was responsible for spreading defamatory information about colleagues, including rumors of extramarital affairs involving high-profile figures.
“After a thorough investigation by our Secret Investigation Panel, it was discovered that Miss Halima Abubakar was behind the defamatory stories about our members and associates,” the AGN stated.
Despite the suspension, Halima will still face a disciplinary committee to determine the extent of her punishment. During this period, she is barred from participating in any AGN or film-related activities, and compliance will be monitored by the association’s taskforce.
Additionally, the AGN hinted that other female members are currently under investigation by the panel for alleged involvement in similar scandals, particularly regarding links to the Senate President.
Halima has been involved in a series of controversies, including her 2022 allegations against Pastor Johnson Suleman, claiming he broke a promise to marry her and caused her a life-threatening illness. The pastor later filed a N1 billion defamation lawsuit against her, resulting in an Abuja High Court ruling that ordered Halima to pay N10 million in damages.
The suspension leaves questions about how it will impact Halima’s career, as not all Nollywood actors are members of the AGN, and independent producers may still choose to work with her.
