Godwin Emefiele, the Central Bank of Nigeria’s suspended governor, has finally been taken into custody, according to the Department of State Services (DSS).
The DSS denied reports from several media sites that Emefiele was in their custody in a tweet that was sent out earlier on Saturday, June 10.
Emefiele is currently in the agency’s custody, according to a fresh update shared on Twitter by the account.
The message reads:
“The Department of State Services (DSS) hereby confirms that Mr Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria is now in its custody for some investigative reasons.
“The public, particularly the media, is enjoined to apply utmost caution in the reportage and narratives concerning this.”
Emefiele was detained in Lagos state, according to Bayo Onanuga, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who also confirmed this news.
On Saturday, June 10, at about 1:59 pm, he tweeted confirmation of this.
“After initial denial, DSS has now confirmed the arrest of suspended CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele. He was arrested in Lagos. An official statement soon.”
