Afrobeats singer Small Doctor has voiced serious concern over the growing problem of drug abuse among Nigerian youths. The Agege-born artist recently visited his childhood neighborhood and was deeply disturbed by what he witnessed.
He revealed that several young men he once knew were now visibly affected by substance abuse—some found sleeping while standing and others in disturbing postures due to drug use.
In a heartfelt message shared via his official X handle, Small Doctor called for stronger advocacy and intervention to combat the crisis. He also recalled advice from Fuji legend Wasiu Ayinde, who six years ago encouraged him to open a rehabilitation center, predicting it would be a vital investment for the future.
He wrote:
“There’s this guy who sings against drug abuse on socials—David something, can’t remember fully—but I think we need his voice now more than ever.
I took a walk through the hoods on Sunday, and what I saw broke my heart. The rate at which young boys are getting hooked on drugs is terrifying.
When I got to my hood, I saw some of the guys I grew up with—talented ones—sleeping while standing. Some were making awkward, sad gestures even in sleep.
It’s painful to watch.”
