The Super Eagles responded to their 0-0 draw with Rwanda in a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Tuesday.
The match, played in Kigali, saw the Amavubi dominate early on, but Nigeria gradually took control. Ademola Lookman was a key player, causing issues for the Rwandan defense. He had a chance in the 20th minute thanks to a pass from Wilfred Ndidi, but his shot was saved by Rwandan goalkeeper Ntwari Fiacre. Lookman later scored, but the goal was controversially disallowed by the referee. Victor Boniface also hit the crossbar shortly before halftime after being set up by Lookman. Despite efforts from Super Eagles caretaker coach Augustine Eguavoen, including tactical changes in the second half, the match ended in a goalless draw.
The result keeps Nigeria at the top of Group D with four points from two matches. The Super Eagles took to X to thank their supporters, saying, “FT in Kigali Rwanda 0-0 Nigeria. Four points from two games and we look forward to the next matches in October. Thanks for your support and see you soon.”
