Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has ordered a total lockdown and round-the-clock curfew on Igbajo town in Boluwaduro Local Government Area.

The decision comes after a serious breakdown of peace, which reportedly began on Sunday night and continued into the early hours of Monday.

The announcement was made through a statement released by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, in Osogbo.

According to the statement, intelligence from the governor’s Special Adviser on Security, Samuel Ojo, revealed that tensions spiked following the death of Oba Adegboyega Famodun, the embattled Owa of Igbajo land, who allegedly passed away in Abuja on Friday.

Famodun previously served as the Osun State APC chairman.

The unrest compelled the state government to enforce an immediate curfew to stabilize the community.

Governor Adeleke, reacting to the situation, said, “The administration will not be a party to any untoward civil disobedience capable of truncating the existing peace and harmony currently being experienced throughout Osun State.”

He called on both indigenes and visitors to avoid any acts that could heighten tensions, warning that anyone responsible for further disturbances would face the law.

Expressing concern over the incident, the governor stated, “It is with deep shock and dismay that I received the sad news of the breakdown of law and order in Igbajo last night till the early hours of today.”

Adeleke reaffirmed his commitment to security across the state, emphasizing that his administration would not overlook any threat to public order.

He said, “As a government that believes in total compliance with the rule of engagement in ensuring peace and order at all times, my administration will not fold its arms to allow the breach of law and order anywhere in the state.”

The governor officially declared the curfew, noting that the restriction would remain until the area is fully calm.

He stressed that the step was necessary to prevent any escalation and instructed security agencies to maintain a heavy presence in Igbajo.

Adeleke added, “With effect from today, Monday, 1/12/2025, a contingent of all security personnel, comprising the Army, Police, DSS, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, should take charge by maintaining 24-hour surveillance in Igbajo.”

He called on residents to cooperate with security operatives and remain calm during the lockdown, urging them to prioritize peace and safety.

The governor also extended condolences to the family of the late Famodun and the people of Igbajo, describing him as a cherished and prominent figure in the community.
