The National Chairman of the Action Alliance (AA), Barrister Kenneth Udeze, has dismissed circulating claims that the Federal High Court in Osogbo ordered the arrest and imprisonment of the former INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu.
Udeze described the reports as false, politically driven, and aimed at damaging Yakubu’s reputation, clarifying that no such court order exists. He urged Nigerians to ignore the “baseless propaganda,” stressing that the judiciary had not issued any directive against the former electoral chief.
“Produce the Court Order If It Exists,” Udeze Dares Rumour Mongers
Challenging those spreading the news, Udeze demanded that they publicly present the alleged court order, accusing them of deliberately misleading the public.
He further called for respect for Prof. Yakubu, saying the former INEC boss deserved to enjoy his retirement peacefully after his “notable contributions to electoral reforms and democracy.”
Factional Crisis Behind Fake Reports
Providing more insight, the AA chairman linked the misinformation to an internal leadership tussle within the party. He accused a rival faction led by Adekunle Rufai Omoaje of filing unauthorized court cases against INEC using the party’s name.
According to Udeze, Omoaje currently has a pending appeal before the Supreme Court (SC/CV/162/2024), which has not yet been resolved. Despite this, the group allegedly initiated fresh suits at the Federal High Court, Osogbo, in violation of party procedures.
Udeze appealed to AA members to remain calm and patient, assuring them that the truth would prevail once the Supreme Court delivers its final verdict.
