Achraf Hakimi has publicly addressed the sexual offence allegation made against him for the first time.
A 24-year-old woman filed a complaint with police in Paris in 2023, accusing the Paris Saint-Germain defender of sexual assault. This week, the Paris prosecutor’s office confirmed that the case will proceed to trial.
Hakimi, who was recently named the 2025 CAF Player of the Year, has firmly denied the accusation and maintains that he is innocent. Speaking ahead of his court appearance, the Moroccan international insisted that no one should be judged without due legal process.
He said: “Today, a r**e accusation is enough to justify a trial, even though I contest it and everything proves that it is false.
“It is as unfair to the innocent as it is to sincere victims. I await this trial calmly, which will allow the truth to come out publicly.”
The defender has been under investigation since 2023, when the complaint was first made. An investigating judge later indicted him and placed him under judicial supervision, reportedly barring him from contacting the complainant. French outlet Le Monde reported that prosecutors have now formally referred the case to trial.
Hakimi’s lawyer, Fanny Colin, stated that the player strongly denies all allegations and described him as the victim of an attempted extortion. She argued that the case is based solely on the accuser’s claims, alleging that the complainant declined medical examinations, DNA testing, and further investigative cooperation.
The development has sparked mixed reactions on social media, with users debating whether an accusation alone should automatically lead to a trial or whether due process should take its full course before conclusions are drawn.
