Dapo Abiodun, governor of Ogun State, has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families of those killed in a tanker explosion on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in the early hours of Thursday.
When a petrol-laden tanker involved in an accident exploded and exploded on the highway, ten people were killed. The inferno also consumed three other vehicles, including a commercial Mazda bus.
However, the governor described the incident as unfortunate in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Kunle Somorin, on Friday.
He described the ten-person fatal accident as “painful,” adding that his heart goes out to the victims’ families.
Abiodun, who urged caution on the part of drivers on one of the country’s busiest highways, particularly those operating articulated vehicles and tankers, noted that the accident could have been avoided if highway codes and regulations had been followed.
While directing traffic agencies to continue educating and enlightening drivers on the importance of driving safely, the governor stated that his administration would continue to provide the necessary assistance and support to ensure safe motoring on Ogun’s roads.
He did, however, pray for the repose of the dead’s souls and the strength for their families to bear the loss.
