At the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Ile-Ife Zoological Park, a sad event occurred when a nine-year-old lion mauled the zookeeper, Olabode Olawuyi, while he was feeding it. This happened on Monday, February 19, as reported by naijalog. Olabode Olawuyi, who had more than ten years of experience as a Veterinary Technologist, was in charge of the Zoological garden at OAU.
A distressing video circulated online, showing Olawuyi lying unconscious and injured on the ground after the lion’s attack. Colleagues, shocked by the incident, expressed their anger and promised consequences for the lion.
In the video, one staff member took action and shot the lion responsible for the attack. The wounded lion limped before collapsing and eventually died due to its injuries. The University’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olarewaju, confirmed the tragic incident and offered condolences to Olawuyi’s family.
