Atiku Abubakar is unable to access his academic records at Chicago State University (CSU), despite President Bola Tinubu’s best efforts.
This occurs as the PDP presidential candidate for the general election of 2023 tries to learn more about the opponent who was declared the election’s victor.
The Central State University was mandated by the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois to give Atiku access to Tinubu’s academic records no later than Tuesday, October 3, 2023.
President Tinubu had previously challenged the decision of U.S. Magistrate Judge Jefferey Gilbert, who had ordered Chicago State University to reveal Tinubu’s academic records in response to Atiku’s request on September 20, 2023.
Atiku’s curiosity in his academic history, according to Tinubu, violated his right to privacy. However, President Tinubu’s protest was overruled by the presiding judge, Nancy Maldonado.
Atiku’s desire to receive the sought information trumped Tinubu’s privacy concerns, according to Judge Maldonado. She maintained Judge Gilbert’s decision from September 20, pointing out that CSU had not objected to the academic records’ being made public.
Chicago State University was also mandated by Judge Maldonado to finish all filings required for the release by Tuesday at 5 p.m.
The court stated, “Atiku’s application is therefore granted. In light of the pending Supreme Court of Nigeria deadline. represented to the Court as October 5, 2023, and based on CSU’s representations that it is ready to comply with the discovery requests and produce a witness, the Court sets an expedited schedule for completion of discovery. Respondent CSU is directed to produce all relevant and non-privileged documents.
“The Rule 30(b)(6) deposition of CSU’s corporate designee must be completed by 5:00 p.m. CDT on Tuesday, October 3, 2023. Given the October 5, 2023, filing deadline before the Supreme Court of Nigeria, the Court will not extend or modify these deadlines.”
