On Monday, November 13, an individual trying to avoid being apprehended by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASMA) caused a destructive incident on the Gbagada-Oshodi Expressway, resulting in the tragic deaths of two sanitation workers.
The fleeing driver, who was wanted for a traffic violation, collided with two members of the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) at their work location, leading to the immediate demise of both sanitation workers.
According to eyewitnesses, LASMA officials had moved to arrest the driver for a traffic offense. However, instead of complying, the driver chose to flee the scene. In a desperate attempt to escape, the suspect crashed into the two LAWMA workers who were stationed by the roadside.
The incident quickly drew the attention of security personnel, including the police, who arrived promptly. Unfortunately, their intervention heightened tensions as tear gas was used to disperse protesters and restore order to the area.
LAWMA, in a statement released following the incident, confirmed the unfortunate deaths of the two sanitation workers.
