Awka, state of Anambra – Peter Ekemezie, a former lecturer at Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka, Anambra state, was imprisoned by a magistrate court in Awka for publishing disparaging remarks against a professor named Alex Asigbo.
On Tuesday, August 22, Ekemezie was found guilty and given a six-month prison sentence, with the possibility of a N300,000 fine, according to The Punch.
Three counts of allegations bordering on fabrication and slander were brought against the former instructor at the Department of Chemistry.
As he rendered his decision, According to His Worship, E.C. Chukwu, he took into account the fact that Ekemezie had been in a correctional facility for four months and a psychiatric home for one month.
Forged signature of a professor by a former UNIZIK lecturer
Asigbo, the plaintiff, had previously informed the court that following his refusal to provide the defendant with a witness testimony, Ekemezie began penning and disseminating a string of disparaging remarks about him on Facebook.
Asigbo continued, saying that rather than obtaining a subpoena, Ekemezie also falsified his signature.
The vice chancellor of UNIZIK’s media adviser, Emmanuel Ojukwu, verified that Ekemezie departed the organization a number of years ago.
Due to inadequate degrees and multiple gaps in his credentials, he departed UNIZIK several years ago. His case was heard by the Council, and he was dismissed as a result. He worked at the Department of Chemistry prior to it.
Dean of UNICAL is suspended due to claims of sexual harassment.
