According to NAN, an Upper Area Court in Gwagwalada, FCT, has ordered that a 29-year-old carpenter, Samson James, be remanded in a correctional facility for allegedly beating up a woman and causing her great bodily harm.
The police charged James, who lives in the FCT’s Kuje Area Council, with causing great bodily harm.
Following the application of the Prosecution Counsel, Abdullahi Tanko, the Judge, Sani Umar, ordered that the defendant be remanded.
Tanko informed the court that the woman was still being treated for the injury caused by the defendant.
Umar postponed the hearing until October 26.
Earlier, Tanko told the court that the complainant, Ikegwuonu Stanley, who lives across the street from the Arena Hotel in Kuje, Abuja, reported the incident to the Kuje police station on September 29.
He claimed that the defendant beat the complainant’s sister, Blessing, and inflicted a deep cut on her left hand on the same day.
He stated that Blessing was rushed to the Kuje General Hospital, where she was treated for N30,000, and that she was still being examined.
According to the prosecutor, the offense violated Section 242 of the Penal Code.
