A 51-year-old transgender inmate was transferred from a women’s prison to a men’s cell after allegedly raping a female cellmate in the restroom. Tremaine Deon Carroll, who identifies as a trans woman and had previously been charged with multiple counts of sexual assault, was initially detained in a women’s prison under California law allowing transgender inmates to be housed according to their gender identity.
Carroll, also known as Tremayne Deon, had prior accusations of forcing female victims into oral sex, although these charges were later dropped. Following the alleged assault in the Central California Women’s Facility, Carroll suffered another stroke.
Standing 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighing around 200 pounds, Carroll, who has not undergone sex-reassignment surgery, sports a black and gray wig in police photos. The victim, referred to as Jane Doe, stated that Carroll began showing her unwanted sexual interest and left her inappropriate letters. Despite her refusals, Carroll allegedly attacked her in the restroom less than a day after moving into her cell.
