A 14-year-old boy named Donald is said to have used a simple shoelace as a homemade noose to end his own life. Many people are shocked and in astonishment at the occurrence, which happened on Saturday, October 28. Donald resided with his grandma and was known to be a resident of Ekondo Street. A close friend named Eyo told stories of how the day began seemingly routinely, with Donald finishing his morning tasks before heading out to purchase fufu, a cassava dish that is unique to the area. After Donald bought Fufu, the sad turn of events started when he failed to return home.
His friends and family were worried about him being gone. At midday on that fatal day, his grandma, utterly distraught and unable to reach him, sent a carpenter for help. The carpenter showed up on time, but what he saw was startling beyond belief. Donald had wound a shoelace around his neck and hanged himself. He must have fixed the noose to a wall or other structure because there was no furniture or other object that he could have used to support himself.
”Nobody heard any noise from the compound until the carpenter ran out and raised alarm and we all went inside the compound. The boys legs were on the floor, there was no table or object which the boy climbed on to fix his head on the noose and the string round his neck was just a shoe lace”.
“The police did not touch the boy and and others who were called to take the boy down did not touch the body and when the woman was asked to take the boy down she refused,” Eyo said.
