The 9th edition of The Headies, Nigeria’s biggest annual urban and hip-hop culture awards will hold on October 25, 2014.
Organizers of the prestigious award, Smooth Productions made the announcement this week.
‘There is no better way to reward these deserving artists where they are not only appreciated by their country, but also celebrated on a platform aligned with international brands. The honour of receiving this prestigious award in their country, that is recognized on an international level, is one of the many things Smooth Promotions aims to achieve with this years organization of The Headies’, CEO of Smooth Promotions, Ayo Animashaun says.
Last year, the award show was hosted by Mavin Records acts Tiwa Savage and Dr SID. Hip-Hop acts Olamide and Phyno dominated the show winning multiple awards. For the first time, The Headies introduced a new category – The Best Alternative Song which was won by rapper Blackmagic.
Meanwhile, organisers of The Headies have opened its doors to receive music materials for nominations. Only music materials released between July 2013 and June 2014 qualify for entry. The process opens July 22, 2014 and closes August 30, 2014
The first edition of The Headies was held in 2006.
