An eight-year-old girl identified as Siyama Idris has tragically lost her life after falling onto an exposed iron rod at a road and drainage construction site in Tudun Wada, within the Nassarawa Local Government Area.
The incident reportedly happened on Saturday, March 14, 2026, near Tudun Wada Primary School, where reconstruction and expansion work, including drainage construction, was ongoing.
An eyewitness, Abdulrashid Yusuf, explained that the young girl had been sent to a nearby shop to get items for iftar when the tragic event occurred.
He noted that the construction site had exposed iron rods within the drainage area and lacked a safe pedestrian crossing, leaving residents to rely on a temporary wooden plank bridge.
Yusuf said: “The girl, Siyama Idris, was sent to buy something at a shop for iftar,”
“To cross the drainage, people normally use a gadar katako, which is just a wooden plank placed across the drainage.
He added that while trying to cross close to the construction area, the girl accidentally slipped and fell onto one of the exposed iron rods used in the drainage structure.
