A 73-year-old man, Williams Uwadia, has been arrested by Edo State Police Command, for allegedly using a kitchen knife to stab 27-year old Gabriel Aigbosuria to death.

The suspect, according to a police source, was arrested at the scene of crime shortly after the alleged murder, in Benin, on Friday.

The source, who craved anonymity because he was not authorised to speak on the matter, said the suspect had a disagreement with the deceased earlier in the day, following which he went to the nearest police division to effect his arrest.

The source said, “The police followed him for the arrest, but unknown to them, that he had a kitchen knife with him, as the policemen were trying to mediate in the matter, the suspect suddenly brought out a knife and snuffed life out of the 27-year-old man.”

The state assistant Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Ejiroro Ahwara, confirmed the arrest, saying the state police homicide section was already investigating the murder.
