The Lagos state governor, Gov. Babatunde Fashola has again reteitrated on the need for a steady power supply in the nation to put an end to underdevelopment and reduction of poverty.
Fashola disclosed at the opening ceremony of the 7th Lagos Economic Summit tagged: `Ehingbeti’ in Lagos.
According to him, the State Government had embarked on a number of initiatives to improve power supply in the state.
He stressed that part of the initiatives includes the establishment of Island, Adiyan and Alausa Independent Power Plants.
He said the projects had not only made lives better in the state but had also helped businesses to thrive.
The governor said his administration had also made great strides in agriculture, housing and transportation and that the successes had impacted positively on residents.
Also speaking, Mr Ben Akabueze, Lagos State Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, said the conference was to generate ideas for the state’s development.
He said past resolutions of the summit had been implemented to improve living standards of residents.
“Some of these resolutions include the establishment of a security trust fund which has so far mobilised about N4billion to support police operations.
“Another is what has translated to the establishment of IPPs in the state to improve power supply.
“The summit is helping to change lives and the government is fulfilled by that’’, he said.
The theme of the three-day summit which ends on Thursday is “powering the Lagos Economy: Real Opportunities, Endless Possibilities.’’
