In the early hours of Wednesday, October 4, 2023, gunmen who were likely bandits invaded the off-campus residences of the Federal University, Dutsinma (FUDMA) in Katsina State and abducted 5 female students.
Unknown attackers entered the students’ residences, which were located behind Mariamoh Ajiri Memorial School in Dutsinma along Tsaskiya road.

Witnesses claim that the armed guys took the students by force and fled the area before the police could intervene.
All five victims, two of whom were in their final year of study, were from the states of Kano and Nasarawa, according to sources close to the university.
One of the university students told newsmen that “five of them (the students) were kidnapped; they are from Kano and Nasarawa states, and two of them are final-year students.”
The unsettling occurrence was confirmed by the head of FUDMA’s public relations department, Habibu Umar Aminu, who said it took place on Wednesday at 2:00 a.m.
Aminu stressed that the university administration has launched coordinated measures with law enforcement organizations to ensure the safe release of the abducted students.

The Katsina State Police Command has launched an investigation into the event.
One person suspected of providing information to the kidnappers has reportedly been captured, according to ASP Sadiq Aliyu Abubakar, spokesperson for the command.
In addition, a number of other people have been detained on suspicion of being involved in the kidnapping.
