The police detectives at the Delta State Police Command, are seriously looking for a 44- year- old housewife whose name was given as Patience Nnaemka in Ugbolu community, near Asaba, for allegedly, disappearing into thin air with a new born baby at a private hospital ward in the area.
While the police have intensified their search for the woman, they have arrested a ward orderly attached to the private hospital and the husband of the suspect.
Reports said that the woman had been married close to 10 years with no child after all her efforts to seek help from traditional doctors failed.
DSP Celestina Kalu, Police Public Relations Officer in the state, who confirmed the arrest of the ward orderly and the husband of the suspect, disclosed that the woman was admitted into the private hospital for malaria sickness, adding that while she was on admission, the mother of the baby had just put to bed and after two days, pleaded with her to look after the baby while she went across to buy some of the baby things; a situation she allegedly took advantage of and disappeared with the baby.
When the mother returned, DSP Kalu, said that she raised the alarm on the whereabouts of the woman and the baby, but it didn’t yield any fruit and she immediately reported the matter to the police who in turn beamed their searchlight on her whereabouts.
Speaking to our correspondent, the chief medical director of the hospital who did not want his name in print, explained that the mother of the baby delivered safely and was put on bed rest before the theft, adding that while he was away to pick some documents in the house, he was told that the woman who came for malaria treatment, had disappeared with the new born baby.
