Veteran Nigerian musician Innocent Idibia, widely known as 2Face, has shared his opinion on the ongoing discussion comparing global star Wizkid with late Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.
The conversation gained attention after Wizkid sparked controversy by stating that he is “bigger” than Fela. The comment came while he was responding to criticisms from Seun Kuti regarding comparisons between him and the Afrobeat pioneer.
Speaking in a preview of an upcoming episode of the Mic On podcast, 2Face addressed the debate and described the comparison as unnecessary. He stressed that it is disrespectful to Fela’s legacy while also being unfair to Wizkid’s achievements.
The African Queen singer explained that comparing both artists overlooks the fact that they belong to different generations and contributed to Nigerian music in very different ways.
“Comparing Fela with Wizkid is ridiculous. Apart from the fact that it is disrespectful to Fela, at the same time, it is also unfair to Wizkid,” 2Face expressed.
