A list of 27 names purportedly created by President Bola Tinubu and circulated on Facebook as “new appointees and some new ministries” has been disproven.
The 27-man list, which has now been shown to be fraudulent, has been reproduced on other Facebook groups, according to Africa Check, a fact-checking website. Some of these pages say that President Tinubu has eliminated certain ministerial posts.
According to the Facebook post, Pat Utomi, an economist and Labour Party member, has been chosen as the minister of development and national planning, and well-known Nigerian preacher Tunde Bakare has been named as Tinubu’s special adviser.
Femi Falana, a human rights campaigner, was reportedly nominated justice minister.
Utomi, one of the individuals listed, has refuted the assertion that he was named a minister by the Tinubu administration. Nigerians should disregard the list, Utomi said.
According to his spokeswoman, “nothing can be further from the truth,” The Punch said.
Remember that the legislation Muhammadu Buhari, the immediate past president, approved mandates that ministers be chosen within 60 days of the formation of a new administration.
The MPs are then given the names to review the proposed ministers in the national parliament.
Similar to prior sessions, the national assembly’s confirmation of the nominations is expected to be broadcast live on television.
Since President Tinubu took office on Monday, May 29, none of the aforementioned events have occurred, and no reliable media outlet has reported such.
