Ghana’s Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has confiscated a 2019 Lamborghini Urus belonging to popular dancehall musician Shatta Wale, following a request from the FBI and the U.S. Department of Justice.
The luxury SUV, discovered at Shatta Wale’s residence in Trassaco Valley, Accra, was reportedly linked to the criminal proceeds of Nana Kwabena Amuah a man currently serving a prison sentence in the United States for financial crimes.
According to EOCO’s acting director, Raymond Archer, the seizure was carried out in June after a lawful search by the agency’s Surveillance and Asset Recovery Unit. Initially, Shatta Wale real name Charles Nii Armah urged officers to keep the operation private, insisting the car was important to his public image. He later voluntarily surrendered the vehicle. EOCO confirmed the handover took place peacefully without incident.
The agency stated that the vehicle is now in its custody and will be returned to the United States as part of Amuah’s $4.7 million restitution order. Shatta Wale and a former senior officer of Ghana’s National Signal Bureau are being treated as persons of interest and will assist in further investigations. A final report may be forwarded to the FBI and U.S. Department of Justice.
In a Facebook post, Shatta Wale criticized EOCO for deploying armed officers during the search, accusing the agency of attempting to embarrass him.
