The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 54-year-old man named Chizoke Obiadada and his 17-year-old son, Michael Obiadada, for allegedly assaulting a woman named Tope Owoade, which led to her death.
According to the police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, the incident stemmed from a dispute over the use of Tope Owoade’s worktable, which she used for selling “Pomo” (a local delicacy).
On March 28, 2024, around 8:30 PM, Chizoke Obiadada and his son, Michael, got into an argument with Tope Owoade after she prevented them from sitting on her worktable. The argument escalated, and the father-son duo allegedly attacked Tope Owoade, severely beating her and causing her to bleed profusely from her private parts.
Tope Owoade’s husband, Isiaka Owoade, reported the incident upon returning from a journey on March 29, 2024. He stated that his wife had informed him about the assault, and she was rushed to two private hospitals, but they refused to admit her. Tragically, Tope Owoade passed away while being transferred to a government hospital.
The suspects, Chizoke Obiadada and Michael Obiadada, were promptly arrested by the Divisional Police Officer in Ogijo, and they are currently undergoing preliminary investigations. The case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
Efforts are underway to transport Tope Owoade’s body to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) in Sagamu for a postmortem examination.
