President Goodluck Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former military Head of State , Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) will be the two major contenders to beat at the February’s 2015 presidential election in Nigeria.
Buhari this evening won the APC presidential primary with 3,430, Jonthan was returned unopposed at the PDP convention on Wednesday.
Other who contested against Buhari includes Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso , who polled 974 votes, former Nigerian vice-president, Atiku Abubakar got 954 votes, Governor Rochas Okorocha was fourth with over 600 hundred votes, while the publisher of Leadership newspaper, who resigned to try his luck in politics, garnered 10 votes.
Atiku Abubakar swiftly congratulated General Muhammadu Buhari on his emergence as the presidential candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC), noting that, he deserves to win.
In a tweet on his page, Atiku wrote: “Congratulations General Buhari. The delegates have spoken, you fully deserve the victory.”
All the defeated presidential hopefuls pledged to work with him.
A total of 7,214 delegates were accredited, 5,992 votes were cast at the convention, 16 were voided.
