Actors, Actresses, Journalist and Paparazzi’s yesterday thronged theExpo Center of the Eko Hote & Suites where actors, actresses and the paparazzi thronged to see who win’s what and who nearly won what at AMAA 2012 awards.
The event unofficially dubbed Africa’s version of the Oscar had in attendance notable Stars from Hollywood, Nollywood and from across Africa.
The attendance of Lynn Whitfield (The JosephineBaker Story and Without a Trace); Morris Chestnut(American Horror Story, Boyz in the Hood); Rockmond Dunbar(Prison Break, Sons of Anarchy) and Maya Gilbert (General Hospital, Days of Our Lives) all from Hollywood gave credence to the well attended event.
Films and artistes that got honored include:
Alero’s Symphony, Adesuwa, Phone Swap . Nollywood star, Rita Domanic won the award for Best Actress In A Leading Role with her role in ‘Shattered’
The big winners of the night were Charlie Vundla’s How To Steal 2 Million with five awards. It picked won for Best Film, Best Director, Supporting Actor (Rapuldna Seiphemo), Supporting Actress (Terry Phetto) and Editing. and Adesuwa by Lancelot Oduwa Imaseun came away with three prizes in the categories of Best Costume Design, Visual Effects and Nigerian Film.
Sara Bletcher’s Otelo Burning picked up two awards. It won for Cinematography and Best Child Actor (Tsepang Mohlomi). It had led with 13 nominations
There were a number of other double award-winners. State Of Violence by Khalo Matabane won for Best Film in an African Language and Best Sound. The two prizes for Shattered were for Best Make-Up and Actress in a Leading Role (Rita Dominic). Alero’s Symphony won for Soundtrack and Young/Promising Actor (Ivie Okujaye).
A Special Jury Prize was awarded to Man On Ground by Akin Omotoso.
The AMAA Jury was chaired by Asantewa Olatunji of the Pan African Film Festival in Los Angeles. The jury included Steve Ayorinde, Shuaibu Husseini and Ayoku Babu.
