- Asa
Asa is one of Nigeria’s best musical exports. Her sophomore album, Beautiful Imperfection was released in 2010 and she’s already hinted at new music being released sometime in the year and we can’t wait, and are really hoping for a brand new album this year!
- 2Face
According to his Wikipedia page, 2Face has won 41 award since 2002- awards that were given to him not just in Nigeria and Africa but also across the world. His 5th album, Away and Beyond was released in 2012 and we are expecting new music from this maestro, this year.
- Seyi Shay
Seyi Shay came onto the Nigerian music scene in the last quarter of 2012. Before she came to Nigeria, she was a member of an all girl group called From Above and they were signed to Matthew Knowles’ record company: Sony/Columbia Record and Music World Entertainment Company. From No Lele to Ragga Ragga, Seyi has had a number of hits and we would love to hear a full RnB/Pop album from her.
- Phyno
As someone pointed out: “Phyno is like Micheal Jackson in the east.” Funny yes, but true? A little. Phyno seems to have captured the hearts of not only Eastern Nigerians, but music lovers all over Nigeria. He was ranked 3rd on Notjustok.com’s list of the 10 Most Gifted Rappers in Nigeria, and an album this year would definitely be a good argument for or against that title.
- Praiz
Praiz was the first runner up at the first edition of MTN Project Fame in 2008, which saw Iyanya emerge as winner. We didn’t hear much about him after he won until he resurfaced again and is back for good. Praiz has an amazing voice! If any convincing needs to be done, simply listen to his song, ‘Rich and Famous’ or his cover of Rihanna‘s ‘Stay.’ He had already slated his debut album release for 2013 but since it didn’t come, we hope for it in 2014. We need some of those vocals all over the place!
- Niyola
Niyola is a fantastic singer as is evident in her songs: ‘Toh Bad‘ and ‘Belle No Be showglass,’ both released in 2013 after she signed onto the Empire Music Entertainment record label. In some quarters, it is believed she was one of the underrated artistes in 2013 and will be much more recognized in 2014. What better way to do that, than to release an album? We’ll be waiting on you girl.
- Lynxxx
Lynxxx is still the king of ‘jollof music.’ In 2009, his single ‘Change Your Parade‘ did change his parade – literally, as that was the beginning of the success he has recorded so far. His debut album, This is Lynxxx, was released in 2010 with a number of singles after that but his work is still respected and it’s time he work his way back into the consciousness of music lovers in Nigeria. What better way to do this than release a new album?
- eLDee
His last album titled ‘Undeniable‘ was released in 2012 and some of his past releases from 2008/2009 still get lots of airplay today. We do wonder, at times, what his new material will sound like and we hope he indulges us by releasing an album before the end of this year…
- Darey
Dare Art Alade is one very talented artist. So far he has released 3 albums (with the most recent ‘Double Dare’ released in 2011) and each of those albums have evergreen songs on them, from ‘Not The Girl’ to ‘Escalade‘ ‘Sisi Eko‘ ‘More‘ ‘No Stars’ and many others. However, he shouldn’t keep all that vocal talent away from us for too long. We call on him to give us an album this year.
- Cobhams
Words can express the ingenuity of Cobhams. He is simply, genius and has produced some of the best Nigerian songs in the last decade, for other artistes, and just recently released his first single: ‘Ordinary People,’ which is all shades of amazing. He’s got the voice and we would love more songs, from him, in the form of an album this year.
- Temi Dollface
The best term to describe Temi Dollface is ORIGINAL. Temi is a Singer, songwriter, composer, performer and fashion enthusiast who, according to her, pushes beyond cliche to create a bold, witty, groundbreaking sound that’s off-the beaten track and completely her own. ‘Pata Pata’ was a fantastic song, and the video was all kinds of fantastic! Her sound and style are unique, and we would love to listen to an album from her this year.
- Wizkid
Wizkid a.k.a Starboy needs no introduction. Really. Not in Nigeria, not in Africa and if you come across American rapper, Wale or British bred singer, Tinie Tempah, ask ‘em who he is. Children sing along while adults boogie all the way down to his music. His first single ‘Holla at Your Boy‘ was released in 2009 and that was the beginning of what is now, a successful career. His debut album, Superstar, was released in 2011 but he waxed even stronger after that. BUT 3 years is a long time….we need a new record already. Waiting on you Wizzy.
- Sasha P
Sasha P is referred to as the First Lady of Hip Hop in Nigeria and rightly so. There was a time when there were no female artistes doing things in the Nigerian music industry other than her. She has a career spanning over a decade and is still respected till this day. We definitely need her to drop an album this year to retain her title of Nigeria’s First Lady Of Hip Hop!!
- Yemi Alade
Yemi Alade won the Peak Talent competition in 2009 and that was how it all started. Her ability to sing is not in doubt, her experiment with different sounds has been nothing but pleasing to the ear. After a number of successful single and well received videos, what’s next is an album. Or rather, we hope for one this year.
So, there you have it guys. Are you looking to receiving new albums from any of the artistes above or any other artiste? Let us know.
