Grief engulfed a village after a 13-year-old girl committed suicide after failing to join secondary school for lack of school fees.
The girl is said to have performed well in last year’s entry examination and had managed to secure a chance at Kisumu Girls’ High School but the parents could not afford to raise her school fees.
According to her friends, the deceased had shown distress saying that her dreams had been shattered, but they never imagined she could go to the extent of taking away her life.
Speaking to the media, the parents said that they had gone to their farm only to return to find her body dangling in the bedroom.
She had left a note stating clearly that she committed suicide because she saw no reason to live as her dream to join secondary school had been shattered.
Area police boss confirmed the incident terming it as unfortunate. Her body was taken to Nyanza Provincial Hospital morgue.
