Super Eagles Chief Coach, Stephen Keshi is unhappy with the performance level of some Nigerian Players in the English Premier League, and has declared that they must play more regularly for their clubs to stand a chance of going to the World Cup in Brazil this year.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja, Keshi expressed displeasure with the fact that players like Victor Moses of Liverpool and Chelsea’s Kenneth Omeruo are not having regular playing times in their club, saying that should the situation remain like that he may find it very difficult taking them to the Mundial.
“We are watching them and we are trying to do the best we can because at this point we are building ahead of the World Cup finals,” he said.
“But I need to see more of my players playing regularly in the EPL so that they can show more of their abilities. And we know that the other players in the East bloc who are on break are doing well. We are watching them, we are following them and we are also trying to communicate with them.”
He maintained that he wanted to avoid a situation where he has to take match rusty players to the World Cup, saying that his desire is to ensure that only players who are 100% fit make it to Brazil.
“I have advised Omeruo to look for a club where he can play regularly. He is a talented kid and a key member of my team, but if he is sitting down and not playing, it becomes difficult because he will become rusty just like the home based players I have now.
“But if he goes out there I know he can make it but it also depends on if the coach wants to play him or not. If he goes to any team on loan I think it will be good for his career,” he said.
Meanwhile, Keshi has expressed frustration in securing friendly games with high profile countries, saying that most of the teams have been booked.
“NFF is working very hard; they want to provide me with quality teams to play with and that’s what they have been working on. But the problem is that most of these European teams have already been booked for engagements.
“But we are just coming in because we were not too sure if we were going to make it to the World Cup and it’s a little bit difficult for them to say we need to book this friendly match. I will love to have another quality game like the Italian game,” Keshi begged.
