Nigeria’s largest telecoms operator, MTN is looking for buyers for its tower portfolio, with the sale potentially fetching up to $2 billion.
The sales comes after the company successful completed sales of its towers in six African countries. The countries are Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Rwanda, Zambia, Uganda, and Cameroon.
Funds from the sales would bolster MTN coffers as it undertakes a network upgrade programme. The company owns about 8 000 towers in Nigeria.
A number of Nigerian telecoms operators are currently in the process of selling their tower assets, allowing them to focus on more profitable parts of their operations.
