The Federal Government has began training 120 Nigerians across the 36 states on the fabrication of agro-processing machines, to serve as a catalyst for agricultural revolution in the country.
The Federal ministry of Agriculture stated that the scheme is aimed at spreading the skill so acquired and imparting same to other interested Nigerians.
However, 60 male trainees completed their theoretical and practical courses on fabrication of the relevant Machines at National Centre for Agricultural Mechanisation (NCAM) Ilorin, Kwara State.
Their female counterparts, drawn from across the 36 states of the federation, will next month, commence their own version of the training at the NCAM, towards boosting agricultural production in Nigeria.
The Acting Executive Director of the NCAM, Dr. Yomi Kasali, revealed this during the graduation ceremony of the male batch of the trainees in Ilorin.
Kasali, represented by Director, and Head of Department (HOD) of Farm Power and Machinery Department of the centre, Engineer AbdulGafar Kamaldeen, said the skills so acquired should serve as a security against youth unemployment in the country.
Responding on behalf of the participants, Mr. Adamu Sunday from Borno State commended the initiative of the Federal Government at diversifying the economy from oil to agricultural sector.
