A bungling burglar was caught red-handed when police found a picture of him giving the thumbs-up in a car he had stolen.
Aron Thompson broke into a pensioner’s home in Acocks Green in south Birmingham on March 1, after stealing a car from outside another home in the same road the week before.
The 29-year-old had a friend take a picture of him sitting in the driving seat of the stolen car giving the thumbs-up to his friend, which police then found when they tracked him down.
Thompson, who had 10 previous burglary convictions, was found hiding under a bed at his girlfriend’s house the day after the robbery.
Officers had spotted the stolen car, a Kia Sportage in Yardley.
Stolen property, a baseball bat and a screwdriver was later found inside the car as well.
The serial thief admitted burglary and handling stolen goods and was jailed for four years at Birmingham Crown Court on June 7.
