The recently introduced Satellite surveillance centre has reduced the incidences of piracy and oil theft on the nation’s territorial waters.
The Director General of , the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency(NIMASA), Mr. Ziakede Patrick Akpobolokemi disclosed this in Lagos, on Monday at a world press conference.
He noted that the agency’s surveillance centre has been stem illegal bunkering of oil through the waterways.
“The NIMASA satellite system was strategic in the successful operations to curb maritime breaches with the most recent being the Joint Task Force ‘Operation Pulo Shield’ to interdict and arrest a vessel MT skye that was involved in illegal lifting of crude oil in the coastal waters off Brass”.
Akpobolokemi alo revealed that the facility provides intelligence report to the Nigerian Navy and the Airforce.
