President Muhammadu Buhari is happy that no new cases of polio has been recorded in Nigeria in the last one year.
He revealed this while vaccinating his 3-month-old grand daughter, Saliya Bello Abubakar at the Aso Rock Villa.
Buhari noted that a no incidence reporting of polio within a one year cycle is a milestone worthy of celebration.
The president administered the polio vaccine on his relative to demonstrate the safety and efficacy of the vaccine, as many in Northern Nigeria are skeptical about allowing their children receive the life saving immunization, due to unfounded rumours that Western nations are using it control fertilty in developing countries.
Buhari while immunizing his granddaughter also reiterated his government’s commitment to sustain the eradication of polio from Nigeria.
The World Health Organisation will soon declare Nigeria polio free
