The former governor of Central Bank of Nigeria and present Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido on Sunday, visited the palaces of the Awujale of Ijebu, Sikiru Adetona, the Oba of Lagos, Ridwan Akiolu and the residence of a national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
At the Awujale’s palace and in the presence of various traditional rulers from Ijebuland, Senator Gbenga Kaka, Chief Sunny Kuku, Senator Lekan Mustapha, Chief Jide Awosedo, and religious leaders from the land, Sanusi acknowledged the fatherly role of the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu and the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba (Dr) Sikiru Kayode Adetona.
He also thanked them for their support in mentoring him to ascend the throne of his forebearers.
The Emir said, “I am happy to be here today. This is a long standing relationship. Both the Awujale and the Oba of Lagos are my fathers. They have adopted me as a son for many years. They have both supported me and monitored me till I became emir. Their prayers for me has led to my success and I thank them for their support.
“I am still going to visit two more Obas, the Alaafin and the Ooni. My prayer is that,as leaders,we will strengthen the bonds of our people by upholding the tenets of our traditions.”
Responding, Oba Adetona applauded the contribution of Alhaji Sanusi to the growth of the nation’s economy while holding sway as the Governor of Central Bank.
In Lagos, Sanusi was received by the Oba of Lagos. Islamic faithfuls and Hausa youths.
Oba Akiolu in a speech urged Sanusi to support the Federal Government in restoring peace and promoting development in Kano State, said the visit was remarkable because Lagos had always been a home to all tribes of people.
Meanwhile, at the Ikoyi residence of Bola Tinubu, the meeting between the APC leader and Emir was held behind closed doors.
Sources close to the APC leader who spoke with Naijalog yesterday on condition of anonymity said the emir was on a thank you visit to the duo, following the role they played in his emergence as the revered Kano monarch.
Naijalog also learnt that the Oba of Lagos escorted the Emir to Tinubu’s residence.
