Emeka Aseme, a cousin of renowned musician Charly Boy has been murdered by hired assassins, however details of what happened are still shrouded in mystery.
The business tycoon and hotelier was abducted at his 5-star hotel in Oguta on 24 February by unknown gunmen who also killed three policemen who served as security officers at the expansive hotel.
After agonizing days of uncertainty the family of the abducted was able to establish contact with the kidnappers who demanded a ransom of N8 million which was promptly paid.
After the payment, the kidnappers did not release Emeka, this led to panic and increased anxiety on the part of his family members.
It was in this state of perpetual fear that Emeka’s younger Okowonji was contacted on March 9 to go to a community between Owerri and Oguta to pick up his brother.
On getting to the place he was directed, Okwonji saw the dead decomposing corpse of his brother.
During the shoot out in which Emeka was forcefully taken, one of the kidnappers cum assassins was injured, he was however was able to flee the scene to Port Harcourt where he tried to seek treatment at a military hospital.
The suspect is now helping the police with their investigations, five other members of the gang have also been arrested.
Charly Boy reacted to his cousin’s gruesome killing, saying:
“I have never seen a thing like this since I grew up in Oguta. This is extreme barbarism. How can a man be so callous to his fellow man to the extent of removing different parts of his body until he finally gave up? This is unheard of. What is this country turning to? What era is this? As far as I know, no evil doer will go unpunished. Every evil committed by man to man must surely be redressed, if not now, certainly later, if not by man, then by God, for the victory of evil over good is temporary. We are waiting for the outcome of police investigation. After then, we will take the campaign to Oguta. We must agitate for peace. The peace that has eluded us must be returned. We are not known for this.”
Authorities at the hospital failed to treat him because he couldn’t provide any proof that he was a military personnel despite the fact that he was wearing a military apparel and they also called in the police.
what a world?
