Dutch authorities say a Nigeria soldier who contracted the dead Ebola virus disease while working as a peacekeeper in Liberia has been cured.
A statement by the Dutch public health institute RIVM on Friday noted that, “the Nigerian patient who was admitted on December 6 has been cured of Ebola.”
The unnamed soldier who was flown to Netherlands by the World Health Organization is the first EVD patient on Dutch soil.
RIVM in the statement said that the soldier will remain at at a military hospital until he can return home, though he was treated at the university hospital in central city Utrecht.
Ebola has killed more than 7300, with about 3,340 deaths in Liberia.
