Social networks have been ablaze with news about the MTV Base VJ Search as the Nigerian music industry gets behind the search for a brand new MTV Base presenter. Stars name-checking the search on Twitter via the campaign hashtag #BaseVJSearch include Davido, Basketmouth, Toolz, Emma Nyra, DJ Spinall, Waje, DJ Neptune, Eva Alordiah, Eldee, Bouqui, 2Face, Timi Dakola, Phenom, JJC, Lynxxx, DotStar, Ice Prince, ZaraGetti,D’Prince, Iyanya, Samklef, KCee, Brymo, Bovi, P-Square’s Peter Okoye, Iceberg Slim, Jimmy Jatt, 9ic, Banky W, Mr. RawandMo’Cheddah. The news comes as celebrity host and popular on air personality from The Beat FM Toolz and MTV Creative Director Tim Horwood are revealed as judges in the MTV Base VJ Search – Nigeria. Together with previously announced judge Banky W (@BankyW), Toolz and Horwood will be helping to identify the brand new VJ who will become one of the key faces of the music network, hosting programmes on MTV Base (DStv Channel 322) and on the MTV Base block on STV.
Thousands of people are expected to turn up at the auditions for the MTV Base VJ Search, which takes place on 1 December at Fantasy Land, Lagos with stars Ice Prince, Wizkid, Davido and Burna Boy on hand to lend their support. So far, MTV Base has received hundreds of video submissions from Nigerian youth eager to get their big break into the TV and music business. The winner of the MTV Base VJ Search Nigeria will be following in the footsteps of veteran MTV Base VJ Cynthia “C-Von” Okpala who won MTV Base’s first ever Nigerian VJ search in 2007. Cynthia subsequently hosted many MTV Base programmes and showbiz events, co-hosted syndicated radio show “MTN Yellow Top 10 Countdown” and starred as “Ify” in MNet TV series “Tinsel”.
The MTV Base VJ Search is open to Nigerian citizens aged between 18-25, with fluent spoken English and a valid Nigerian passport. Applicants already associated with another major TV or radio station are not eligible to participate.
